Light blue eyes drooping,
Another New Year passes.
She barely made it.
My resolution:
Focus on priorities.
Let’s have some ice cream.
It was just Orange
Before sponsors took over.
Now, it’s Discover.

Haiku Hai: A Satur Day
I started the day
Wielding a black controller,
Beating the bad guys.
I slept a few hours.
Fleeting dreams of the future
Rarely remembered.
I woke with big plans,
But wielded the controller,
Beating the bad guys.
Then I made a call.
A foreign cell phone woke him.
The card didn’t last.
We struggled with Skype,
The sound and picture, suspect.
Hours passed like minutes.
I strode down Thompson.
An ancient barber cut me.
I paid him for it.
So many Santas,
They stumbled down the sidewalks.
Such jolly drunkards.
Ate at the Grey Dog.
In the door, a pending grade.
Not sick as a dog.
Came back home to work.
Watching Madmen episodes.
Can’t help but wonder.
I’m considering
Wielding the black controller,
Beating the bad guys.

3WW (Deviate, Identify, Saturate): No One
Deviate from good.
Identify with evil.
Saturate young minds.
Deviate from sin.
Identify with virtue.
Saturate young minds.
Deviate from choice.
Identify with balance.
Saturate no one.

3WW (Occur, Ragged, Tidy): Haiku
I return not with a bang but a whimper. Still, I return...
When these things occur
Life’s most tidy perfections
Run themselves ragged
When these things occur
Life’s most tidy perfections
Run themselves ragged

3WW (Karma, Obey, Wither): Haiku
Haven't written haiku in some time. Taking a break from the story at least for a week...
The green grapes wither;
They obey the sun’s red heat.
Raisins as karma.
They obey the sun’s red heat.
Raisins as karma.
They wish they'd wither,
fall to karma's losing curse.
Yankees don't obey.
fall to karma's losing curse.
Yankees don't obey.

Sunday Scribblings: Scary Haiku
From Sunday Scribblings: I can't recall if we've done this prompt before, but I'm curious: what scares you?
The white outer shell
Glistens with the morning’s dew.
Another dropped ball.
Prepped for the meeting.
I excitedly enter
Thirty minutes late.
‘I have the money,’
I say uncomfortably
‘In my other coat.’
I swore it was here.
But I searched the entire house.
Now my wallet’s gone.
‘Feign is not a word.’
‘Yes it is,’ he said to me,
Student to teacher.
At the pearly gates,
He says I made a mistake.
The wrong discernment.
We learn from mistakes.
Unless we are utterly
Paralyzed by them.
Glistens with the morning’s dew.

Potluck: Haiku
The red sun ascends.
The ship’s captain says a prayer.
Sailors take warning.
A night cold and brusque,
Frigid rain falls in rhythm
Softly on the roof.
Broken shard of glass
Once used to slice a man’s throat
Dulls in the ocean.
Dandelions weep.
Their cotton flits through the air.
One lands on my tongue.
The ship’s captain says a prayer.

A night cold and brusque,
Frigid rain falls in rhythm
Softly on the roof.
Broken shard of glass
Once used to slice a man’s throat

Potluck: Haiku
I drew a perfect
circle in the sand with a
stick. The world ended.
A leaping leper
is in serious danger
of losing himself.
The road fell; the wind
and cold rain burned my face. God
held me in His palm.
